Confident Living

One day, you will look at your life and ask yourself a question: Was it worth it?

Was it worth taking those courageous steps and moving forward when part of you wanted to stay exactly where you were?

Was it worth changing, evaluating, adapting, expanding and, most of all, growing?

Was it worth becoming more and more of the person who was always there, simply hidden beneath layers of fear, old ideas, inherited beliefs, perspectives and stories about who you were supposed to be?

And I hope your answer will be: Hell yes.

Reflecting on living

Because life tastes different when you are growing. It feels different when you stop simply existing within the boundaries of what you already know and begin engaging fully with the beautiful, messy and unpredictable experience of being alive. There is something different about beginning to emerge from the cocoon, stretching your wings and discovering that perhaps you were never meant to spend your whole life inside something that once kept you safe.

There is another question worth asking: Was staying there really worth it?

Was it worth giving up parts of yourself to belong, or buying into stories that were never truly yours?

Was life really so frightening that hiding in the basement of your own existence felt safer than allowing yourself to be seen?

Life has limitless opportunities for You

Perhaps there are old stories you have continued carrying simply because they are familiar. Perhaps decisions are still being made by the person you once needed to be rather than the person you are becoming.

Perhaps there are desires you have dismissed before you have even had the chance to explore them because your mind immediately offered you twenty reasons why they could never possibly work.

Fear can be incredibly convincing, and strangely enough, it often has good intentions. It wants to protect you, believes that if it can show you every possible disaster, rejection, failure and disappointment before any of them happen, perhaps it can keep you safe. So it creates entire scary films in your mind, warning you not to do it, asking what will happen if you fail, wondering what people will think or whether you might make the wrong decision. It encourages you to stay exactly where you are because, at the very least, you know this place, but protection can become a cage. Eventually, what once kept you safe can become the very thing keeping you from experiencing yourself and your life fully.

Take the leap - trust yourself and life to hold you

That is where courage enters. Not because fear suddenly disappears or because you magically know exactly what you are doing, but because something within you becomes more important than remaining where you are. You begin to move and take action. You challenge your thinking, notice your behaviours and question what you have always believed. You create and experiment. You get things wrong and change direction. You expand, learn and allow yourself to participate more fully in this beautiful, messy life.

Somewhere along the way, you begin discovering a different kind of freedom. It is not freedom from uncertainty, uncomfortable emotions or difficult experiences. It is the freedom to live your life in a way that is genuinely yours. It is the freedom to listen to your heart, build relationship with your feelings and all the demons inside you, as well as recognise your deepest desires and trust yourself enough to explore where they might lead. Importantly, it is also the freedom to take action, because desire without movement remains imagination. There comes a point when you have to open the door of the cage yourself. No one else can make that decision for you, and no amount of thinking, analysing or waiting for certainty can replace the moment when you finally choose to move.

Perhaps one day, when you look back at everything it took to get there - the decisions and endings, the beginnings and mistakes, the tears and conversations, the risks, uncomfortable truths and courageous steps - you will ask yourself that question again: Was it worth it? and I hope you smile, because somewhere within you, you will already know the answer.

So, my dearest soul, perhaps the question isn't whether you are ready to become a butterfly. Perhaps the butterfly was always there, beneath all those layers of protection, waiting for enough space to emerge. Perhaps the real question is whether you are willing to open your wings.

Are you willing to take that first step beyond the limitations that have kept you small? You don't have to see the whole journey before you begin, and you don't have to know exactly where you will land. You don't need certainty about everything that comes next. You simply have to be willing to begin.
