Professional Relationships

Office Meeting Discussion

Relationships at Work

How you relate to yourself shapes how you relate to the people you work with. When you understand your patterns, reactions and assumptions, you have more choice in how you respond. That might mean leading a team, handling a difficult conversation or simply saying what you think in a meeting. This is what I mean by conscious leadership: noticing what drives you, so you can act with more intention.

You can be highly capable at work and still find relationships one of the most demanding parts of your professional life.

You may take on too much, struggle to delegate, avoid difficult conversations, feel responsible for everyone around you or appear confident while privately questioning yourself.

For some people, work also becomes the place where they feel most competent or in control. Without consciously choosing it, work can begin to take more and more space while personal relationships receive what is left.

As a leader or director, you may feel that everything depends on you.
As a manager, you may over-function for your team and take on all the responsibility.
As part of a team, you may people-please, stay quiet when you disagree or overthink how others perceive you.

The work may help you

  • recognise the patterns shaping how you work with others

  • distinguish responsibility from over-responsibility

  • communicate with greater clarity and confidence

  • navigate conflict and difficult conversations

  • delegate and share responsibility more comfortably

  • understand the role work and achievement play in your identity

  • build more sustainable professional relationships

The goal is not to care less about your work, it is to have more choice over the role it plays in your life and how you relate within it.

You may lead, teach, coach or support others, with or without a leadership title.

People turn to you for guidance, while you balance their needs with your own expectations and the demands of your work.

Sharing responsibility, asking for support or showing uncertainty may feel difficult.

This work gives you space to understand what you carry and how to stay connected to yourself within it.

Certain people or conversations may leave you frustrated, defensive or questioning yourself long afterwards.

You replay a meeting for hours, analysing what you said and how it came across.

Under pressure, you might take over, withdraw or say yes to keep everyone happy, then feel angry with yourself for agreeing again.

Coaching gives you space to understand these responses and bring more awareness and presence to how you relate. You may also come to deepen how you listen, guide and support others.

Work Leaves Little Room for Life

Overworked Parent

Work may be going well while your personal relationships receive less of you. You spend long hours away, and even at home your attention returns to tasks, decisions or tomorrow’s demands.

It is like you are there, but your mind is constantly at work; the struggle to feel present with family or friends impacts the quality of life you really want.

Your social life may have lost its spark, and conversations keep coming back to work or work problems.

Coaching creates space to explore what draws so much of your attention and how you want to reconnect with the people and life beyond it.

What Can Change

As you understand your reactions more clearly, you can recognise familiar patterns sooner and choose how to respond. That awareness becomes practical: in what you say, the decisions you make and how you relate to others.

  • staying steadier when people or circumstances challenge you

  • making decisions rooted in your values and trusting them

  • having difficult conversations more honestly

  • knowing what is yours to carry and what can be shared

  • supporting others without taking over

  • noticing how your assumptions, emotions and communication affect others

  • giving your time and energy to work and home by choice rather than by default

Space to Grow

We begin with what you want to develop in your life, relationships or work. Together, we explore what may be getting in the way, including familiar beliefs, expectations and reactions that can be difficult to notice on your own.

The work is reflective and practical. There is space to understand yourself more deeply, alongside support to turn that insight into decisions, conversations and actions. Between sessions, you can try different ways of responding, notice what happens and bring that learning back into our work.

Monthly sessions offer a regular space to reflect and grow. Fortnightly sessions provide closer support when you want more focus and continuity. We agree the pace around your needs, with time for the learning to settle and become part of everyday life.

Complimentary Consultation

You do not need to know exactly what you want to work on before getting in touch.

In a complimentary 30-minute initial conversation, you can tell me what is happening, ask about my approach and see whether working together feels right.

We can then discuss whether a Clarity Session or a longer coaching partnership would be the best place to begin.
